Welcome, the foreign Olympic volunteers!
Junqing Shi: Welcome to my family, the foreign Olympic volunteers!
My name is Shi Junqing, a teacher of middle school in Tsingdao. Though most events for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will be held in Beijing, as the host city for the sailing events, Tsingdao is also getting itself prepared for the upcoming Olympic Games. For show our support for this grand event, all my family members applied to become an Olympic host family for overseas volunteers in Tsingdao. We were excited to be informed last July that our family was put on the list. My son, in particular, is excited about the prospect of receiving foreign guests at home. He is now a primary school student in grade four. Every day he marked his small countdown card he which made himself; he just can't wait for the Olympic Games to come. We have been doing as much as we can to prepare for the arrival of our foreign guests and to ensure that they feel at home, we practice oral English every day, and we have re-decorated our apartment to make it cozier. Just like one popular poem says[1], "this is a house facing the sea; it looks especially beautiful in the spring."
Redecorating guest rooms to welcome to the foreign Olympic volunteers
It never be no exaggeration to say that the words mentioned above “this is a house facing the sea”, it really truth that you can see the blue sea waves out of my house window. On summer evenings, we usually have beer beneath the twinkling stars on the balcony while enjoying the refreshing breeze from the sea.
For expressed our tender regards for the coming foreign guests, my husband and I began redecorate our two guest rooms from last May. We selected a Japanese style for one room and a European style for the other. After we finished, I invited some foreign friends over for a visit. They showed special interest in the Japanese-style room besides the Japanese, saying that it would be great to sit on the Tatami mats and chat with someone.
