Dear He Yong Shan
This is in regards to your letter of April 17, placing before me some more questions.
Yore questions are very appropriate. I give the answers below, as far as I can
This question has (If the true Self is ever pure, how did it get entangled in) been raised in ancient times. The answer is: our true self has never become imperfect. It is due to delusion we think we are imperfect. This happens in our mind, not in our true self. So what is necessary is to purify our mind. Masters in Taoism, Or Buddhism of Pure Land School also say the same thing
No It is not that the room was not originally dark and it becomes dark at a point of time
The Atman (true Self) is beyond time, space and causation. It is ‘eternal, pure, awakened and free! The darkness is only absence of light. So it has no real existence
Maya has no existence in the ultimate analysis. All the delusion happens in our mind. And the mind is not our true self. Then whence comes the Maya? This is a question that cannot be answered because while being in Maya, we are raising this question. If Maya is gone, the question does not arise at all
The idea of our being imperfect happens in our mind. So bondage or liberation is only in the mind. It is the turbulent mind, which wants to get librated and so runs about in different directions. So our spiritual practice is meant for purifying the mind, not for purifying the true self.
And this purification comes when many thoughts is replace by one only thought, and from then to no thought. When there are no thoughts, then there is no mind. When there is no mind our true self-alone is.
With best wishes
