第15届非洲艾滋病国际会议在达喀尔举行

    新华网达喀尔12月3日电(记者陈顺)第15届非洲艾滋病国际会议3日在塞内加尔首都达喀尔开幕。来自世界各地的专家学者和国际组织以及非政府组织的代表,将在为期5天的会议期间围绕“面对现实:非洲的答案”这一主题,总结在艾滋病防治方面的经验教训,探讨在新形势下抗击艾滋病的途径和办法。

    塞内加尔总统阿卜杜拉耶·瓦德在大会开幕式上说,本次达喀尔会议为非洲大陆防治艾滋病提供了难得的机遇,他呼吁非洲国家与世界其他地区一道为抗击艾滋病作出更大努力。

    据本届非洲艾滋病国际会议主席苏莱曼·姆布普介绍,会议期间,与会者将就社会经济状况对防治艾滋病的影响、救助社会弱势患者群体和有效利用防治艾滋病资金等问题进行深入讨论。

    记者在会场了解到,许多与会者对当前全球性经济降温对防治艾滋病的影响表示关切。联合国艾滋病规划署执行主任彼得·皮奥特说,在当前国际金融危机的形势下,抗击艾滋病已进入了一个更加艰难的阶段。

    世界银行当天发表报告,呼吁非洲国家更有效地利用抗击艾滋病的援助资金。2000年以来,世行已经筹集了16亿美元,专门用于帮助撒哈拉沙漠以南非洲地区防治艾滋病。

    根据联合国艾滋病规划署等有关国际机构的最新报告,撒哈拉沙漠以南非洲地区仍是艾滋病重灾区。截至2007年年底,这一地区艾滋病病毒感染者占全球艾滋病病毒感染者总数的67%,死亡人数占全球死亡人数的72%。

     The World Bank said in a report calling on African countries to make more effective use of aid funds to fight AIDS. Since 2000, the World Bank has already raised 16 billion U.S. dollars, designed to help sub-Saharan Africa to fight AIDS.

     According to UNAIDS and other relevant international bodies to the latest report of the sub-Saharan Africa remains the hardest hit AIDS. As of the end of 2007, the region accounted for HIV-infected people worldwide infected with HIV and 67% of the total number of deaths account for the global death toll of 72%.
