2015年6月29～30日，“海峡两岸医学史发展工作坊”活动在京举办。该活动由北京大学医史学研究中心、北京大学科学与社会中心联合主办，特邀台湾地区阳明大学科技与社会研究所所长王文基，台湾地区中央研究院台湾史研究所研究员刘士永、历史语言研究所副研究员李尚仁、社会学研究所副研究员蔡友月参加，北京大学医学人文研究院院长张大庆、医学人文学系主任甄橙等师生 30 余人共同参与。据悉，活动期间四位台湾地区学者与北大师生进行了主题讨论，并参观了北京大学医学人文研究院资料中心、医学部百年校史展、医学部图书馆和医学部解剖博物馆，在文化交流中架起沟通医学与历史、科学与人文的桥梁。（杨亚端）

李尚仁（Shang-jen Li ），台湾“中央研究院”历史语言研究所副研究员英国伦敦大学帝国学院科学史科技史与医学史中心博士
帝国与现代医学
学术训练背景为现代西方科学史与医学史，尤其是十九世纪的医学与生命科学。我主要的研究兴趣是帝国与现代西方医学的关系，这里的「帝国」指涉的既是十九世纪全盛的大英帝国，也是即将崩解的中华天朝帝国。过去数年，我探讨的焦点集中在两个相关的主题，一是十九世纪英国在中国的医疗活动，再则是英国热带医学的早期历史。十九世纪末成为医学专科的热带医学，在二十世纪上半一直是殖民科学的重要代表。鸦片战争之后清朝政府对西方开放门户，中国不同于欧洲的自然气候与社会环境，提供英国医师宝贵的机会来研究他们在母国罕见的一些疾病。我研究的主要焦点是曾经来华担任海关医官，日后返英创立伦敦热带医学校而有「热带医学之父」之称的万巴德（Patrick Manson， 1844-1922）的研究事业。此外，我也探讨十九世纪来华的医疗传教士、中国海关医官以及医学事业开展于殖民地的医师，如康德黎（James Cantlie， 1851-1926）、罗斯（Ronald Ross， 1857-1932）等人的医学活动，分析英国医师在海外进行研究的方式，以及这些医师和英国母国医学知识中心的互动，进而讨论他们的研究工作如何为热带医学奠定重要的知识基础和研究方向。
未来的主要研究方向将是结合医学史、科学史和帝国史的研究，探讨英国海外扩张活动与其医学知识发展之间的历史关系。近期的工作重点是研究十九世纪英国军医在中国的活动。我也正在撰写专书综述十九世纪西方医学在中国的历史，书中不仅分析来华西方人的医疗工作，也探讨中国人对西方医学的理解与反应。此外，我过去的研究发现，英国热带医学的研究取向、理论概念和实作技术，都与英国自然史（natural history）的研究传统有着密切的关连。未来将从这个角度出发，就研究者网络、图像技术、物质文化与科学实作等面向，重新探讨英国热带医学的历史。
