Opening eyes

 

注视了你三天，从开始注视你的那刻起，我知道你将成为我和你母亲一生的依赖和骄傲。

I’ve focused on you for three days on end. From the moment I gazed at you I realized you’d be my dependency and pride as much as that of your mom for all our lives.

 

你将拥有属于你的流光溢彩，与我们不同的一生。你会拥有同样的春华秋实，但在你的世界里，会与我们不同。

You will enjoy your time fleeting by, a life different from ours. Blossoming in spring and fruit in autumn, all the same, but your world will be different from ours.

 

在你熟睡时，春花在门庭外绽开；在你呼吸间，夏草在田野里生长；在你颦笑中，秋雨在窗棂外飘落；在你的酣梦里，冬阳依旧在云的尽头照耀。

When you fall sound asleep flowers are blooming in spring outside the doors in our courtyard. When you inhale and exhale, grass will grow in summer in the fields. When you beam and smile autumn rain will patter on the windowsill outside. And when you make a sweet dream the sun will shine in winter beyond the clouds.

 

你融入在世界之中，又游离于世界之外的。你会被我们的爱所包围，但我们又希望你浑然不觉。

You have merged into our world, and yet you are alienated from it. You are engrossed in our love without realizing it at all, exactly as we hope.

 

语言和文字所能传递的，会在这里传递和表达；语言和文字所无力启及的，会在久远的年代之后随着人间事及你所领悟，像淡淡的山岚，渺渺的水纹，默默凝结，悄悄聚集。

What spoken and written languages can convey is voiced here. What they can't for the moment, you will realize it in the long years to come! What is implied here in the human world will stealthily gather together as if lost in pale mountain mist or vague water lines. 

 

你会从你紧闭的眼睑中睁开迷蒙的双眼，用透亮的黑眼眸观照这个世界，用你自己的双手触碰探索，用你自己紧蹙的眉头和小脑瓜思索。这个世界昏暗或者闪光，浑浊或者明亮，高贵或者卑微，剧烈或者舒缓，都将来自于你睁眼后的观察和探索。

You will open wide your eyes, now tightly under your eyelids, and watch the human world with your discerning dark eyeballs.  You will touch and feel about this world with your own hands. With your eyebrows knitted closely, you will think with your own brains.  With eyes open, it will be all up to you to watch and probe this very world, to see if it is gloomy or glittering, confusing or bright, noble or despicable, as well as drastic or relaxing. 

 

我们有幸有你为伴，有幸与你为伴，我们将有幸伴随你成长的每一个瞬间。你是上天赐予的恩宠，是链接我们和久远祖先的隐秘的纽带，这条纽带，平时不显，但随着你的成长，随着你的眉眼、鼻翼、唇舌的日趋明朗，而日显清晰。

We are lucky to have you as our companion. We are lucky enough to keep you company. We have enjoyed doing so every bit of moment in your growth. You are our godsend and a secret bond linking us up with our remote ancestors, a bond now concealed, but become clearer and clearer as you grow up, as your eyes and eyebrows, wing of nose, lips and tongue take shape.  

 

看你的嘴角，和我小时候，和你奶奶小时候有多像。Just look at the corners of your mouth! What resemblance to mine and those of your grandmother when we were young! 

 

不能说我们在教你，而是你在教育我们成长，透过你清亮的眼眸，我们也正在学习从另一个视角观照世界。

Far from teaching you, we rather think you are teaching us. From your eye-apples we are learning to watch the world from another angle.  

 

你所为我们拨开的世界里，时间可以凝固，停留在这一个瞬间，透过文字和记忆。我可以长久地注视你，觉得你的每一个细节都是独一无二，无与伦比。

In the world you have opened up for our vision, time can come to a sudden halt. It can pause a moment for remembrance in writing. I can gaze at you for a long, long time, and find you are so unique and peerless in every detail.  

 

睡吧，小乐乐 ~~     在睁眼之后，你的世界将与酣梦中不同，世界也将因你不同。

Go on with your sound sleep, my dear Happy Lele, as with your eyes open your world will be different from what it was when you were dreaming. In fact it would be different because of your coming to this world.
