塔吉克人主要居住在塔什库尔干县，海拔在4000米以上，跟南美的安第斯高原类似，位于中国与巴基斯坦、印度、阿富汗和塔吉克斯坦边境上，境内有中巴国际公路，也称KKH喀喇昆仑公路，从喀什到巴基斯坦的吉尔吉特。这个族群是波斯人种。塔吉克族也以歌舞著称，有特别的乐器鹰笛，用鹰的腿骨制成。
