The World Kite Capital----A Dreamflying Place

Weifang, located in the middle of Shandong Peninsula, is an important military fortress which links up with Jinan, the provincial city and Qingdao, a beautiful seaside city. It is divided into two districts by a clean river with white waves and embraced by greenbelt. It has a long history of Chinese traditional arts and crafts such as: kites, block printings, cloth toys, lacquer wares embedded with silver, paper-cuts,     

clay sculptures as well as embroideries. However, only yearly international kite festival makes it fresh, fast developing from a historical town in the beginning of 1980’s and now it’s well known as  the World Kite Capital both at home and abroad. 

Weifang is an attractive and exciting scenic spot. It has something for everyone: a small and exquisite  “Shihuyuan Gardern” for those who like gardening, in where paintings and calligraphies made by Mr. Zheng Banqiao are kept carefully; the big “Longevity” for stone carving enthusiasts who will feel short and helpless in front of “May your age be as Mountain Tai and your height as a Cun”; peculiar flora for those who enjoy watching trees and plants; Fuhua Amusement Park for the young at heart, and Kite museum for kite fans. You can find more than one thousand kinds of kites at all times and all countries.

In each Kite Festival, it becomes the world of kites, the ocean of happiness and the heavens of the crowed. People in different colours come here for enjoying the blue sky. The kites are beautiful to buy, fantastic to fly, the scenery attractive to admire, the local snack delicious to taste. You can have a hand in kite match in the white sandy beach, watching see-birds shuttled and played during the kites; you can attend dragon-boat race in the calming river or cheers for players in the front of flowers or on the exotic stones in riverside park.
