【解说】他是全国劳动模范，他是全国抗击非典先进个人，他是卫生部有突出贡献的中青年专家，他曾是全国优秀医院院长，他曾是党的十七大代表，他头上有太多的光环。但他更关注自己是否是一名优秀的共产党员。他就是唐小平，广州市卫生局副局长。
１９６４年出生于湖南农村的唐小平看着自己的姐姐死于肺炎就立志要“学医救人”。天随人愿。１７岁，他考入了衡阳医学院医疗专业，２３岁考上了中山医科大学传染病学硕士研究生。毕业后，进入了广州市第八人民医院。１９９７年他获得世界卫生组织（ＷＨＯ）奖学金资助，赴美国佛罗里达大学医学院做高级访问学者，开展病毒性肝炎治疗方面的科学研究。学有所成后，他婉拒美国的盛情挽留，毅然回到了当初培养他的广州市第八人民医院——广州市传染病医院。
那个时候的唐小平并不出名，转折点发生在２００３年那场非典阻击战中。当时，广州市第八人民医院是被指定为首批定点收治医院，唐小平作为当时任期仅两个月的医院院长和广东省抗非专家组成员，他既当总指挥，又当战斗员，率领广州市第八人民医院的医务人员共收治非典病人４１３例，其中确诊２６３例，使医院成为广东省收治非典病人最多、收治时间最长的医院，收治的确诊病例数占广州总病例数的近四分之一，抢救危重病人６０多人次，创造了４．２％的低死亡率和较低的医务人员感染率。
今天，回忆起当年的情景，唐小平并不居功自赏，认为是一帮同事发挥了党员的先锋模范作用的结果。

我记得在抗非初期的时候啊，因为病人来得很急、很猛，人力不够，这个时候我们的党员挺身而出，支部组织起来，很多的共产党员，都写下申请书，要求到抗非的第一线，到非典病区去工作，从开始，到抗非战的结束，整个过程，共产党员都是挺身而出，走在最前面，冲在最前面，涌现了很多可歌可泣的事迹。我现在虽然没有担任医院的院长了，但是我当这个院长，为我有这帮同事非常地自豪。
【解说】俗话说，“金眼科，银外科，勉勉强强干内科，千万别去传染科”。然而，在唐小平的职业生涯里，攻克传染病已经成为他毕生追求的事业。肝病、艾滋病便是唐小平攻克的主要传染病领域。唐小平认为，只要掌握规律，传染病并不可怕，同时，正是源于传染病的挑战性大，所以成就感也越大。

我觉得干传染病也很有成就感，因为传染病的社会影响比较大，你如果把疫情控制了，传染病的成就也就比较大，而且传染病，我自己还有个感觉，跟其他的内科病还不一样，跟高血压，糖尿病，心脏病，我们可以稳定但很难治愈，但是我们好多传染病我们都能够把它完全治好，这个时候把病人治好了，疫情控制了，自然心理的成就感也比较明显。
【解说】唐小平是我国最早开展艾滋病抗逆转录病毒治疗的少数专家之一，在他的带领下，医院在艾滋病联合抗病毒治疗及药物不良反应监测，艾滋病合并结核、青霉菌感染等机会性感染的诊断与治疗及规范化预防等方面处于国内领先水平，收治的艾滋病患者总数居全国医院前茅。医院艾滋病专科成为卫生部首批艾滋病临床医师培训基地及国家艾滋病临床药品试验基地，先后完成了对来自全国各地近３００名医师在艾滋病临床诊断与治疗方面的培训与继续教育任务。
作为我国艾滋病领域的著名专家，唐小平还参与制订了我国“艾滋病诊断与治疗指南”和“国家艾滋病免费抗病毒药物治疗手册”等国家级指南和部分艾滋病法律法规。在科研方面，承担了包括国家科技部十五艾滋病攻关项目、国家自然科学基金等基金资助的８项重点项目研究，为深入了解我国艾滋病机会性感染谱及治疗、我国艾滋病人抗病毒治疗应答、耐药情况、免疫重建规律等做出了重要贡献。
他先后主持１０多项国家、省、市重大项目研究（包括国家“十一五”传染病防治重大专项），在国内外学术刊物发表论文１２０多篇，其中被ＳＣＩ收录 １５篇，获广东省科技进步奖４项（其中特等奖１项）、广州市科技进步奖５项，主编专著３部、参编国内外专著１０多部。
唐小平不仅是一名优秀的科研工作者，更是一名出色的管理者。他担任广州市第八人民医院以来，加强医院管理和专科特色建设，使广州市第八人民医院从一所默默无闻的医院变成了在全国乃至全世界都享有较大知名度的专科医院。医疗业务收入、门诊量、收治的病人总数及职工收入等指标均逐年增长，达到医院历史发展最高水平。
２００８年，唐小平调任广州市卫生局副局长，先后分管疾病控制、应急、卫生监督和医政、中医、基本药物制度等业务管理工作，组织处置了汶川大地震、三聚氰胺奶粉污染事件、手足口病、Ｈ１Ｎ１甲型流感等突发公共事件应急和重大传染病防控工作，取得了显著成绩，积累了丰富的卫生行政管理经验。更可贵的是，在繁忙的日常管理事务中，他还坚持周六出门诊，带研究生，搞科研攻关，一个不落。

虽然又从事管理，又从事业务的工作呢，常常感觉到是比较辛苦，但是我还是觉得苦中有乐，而且我觉得两者并不矛盾，那么管理的工作可以使我能够从更高的层面来做好我们医疗卫生的工作，实际上是相互相存的，作为一名专家，作为医院的一名医务人员，可能会对下面更加熟悉一点。
