The latest breakthroughs in anti-AIDS struggle to achieve

UNAIDS has said the communique released in Geneva, some of the treatment of HIV drugs and also help prevent people infected with the virus. UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibe called it "an important breakthrough in the struggle against AIDS."

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1219 men and women in Botswana are conducted the same experiment, uninfected person taking this drug, the risk of infection will be reduced 63%.

Remarkable 30-year struggle

June 1981, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the first case of AIDS there. Since then, the continued spread of AIDS in the world. According to statistics, about 60 million people worldwide have been infected with HIV, 30 million people died of AIDS.

Children through mother to child transmission of HIV infection in 2009 compared to 2007 decreased by 18%. Currently, there are 520 million people in drug treatment, while in 2004 this figure was only 70 million.

Control of the road long way to go

According to statistics, there are 7,000 new infections every day with HIV, when a person began receiving treatment, while another three people were infected, with an average every 25 seconds a person died of AIDS. The biggest victims are women and children, every minute an infected baby was born. UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibe said that although the quality of life of people with AIDS and medical conditions have a relative 30 years ago, greatly improved, but AIDS is still long way to go.

In addition, by the concept of social and environmental factors are still many people do not want to accept checks, making a high percentage of people do not know if they are sick, has caused great difficulties to the prevention and treatment. United States, "San Jose Mercury News" quoted for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Thomas Frieden R · saying that people should pay attention to AIDS surveillance, and to understand their partner's health.
