宜昌籍科学家领衔美科研队发现最强艾滋病毒抗体

本报讯（见习记者 赵国强）近日，相关媒体报道了美国科学家发现迄今为止两种最强的艾滋病病毒抗体，而取得这一科研成果的研究团队的领衔科学家是湖北宜昌人，名叫周同庆。这一重要发现的科研团队有16位成员，其中9人是华人科学家。
周同庆1966年出生于夷陵区太平溪镇黄家冲村，1985年以当时宜昌地区理科第一名的成绩考入武汉大学生物系，1995年在中科院获得博士学位后，赴美做博士后研究，2001年进入美国国家卫生研究院疫苗研究中心从事艾滋病疫苗的研究工作。
周同庆所在的研究团队发现的两种艾滋病病毒抗体，其中最强的可以使91%的艾滋病病毒毒株失活，比目前为止发现的任何艾滋病(AIDS)抗体都要有效。周同庆接受媒体采访时介绍，这两种抗体是在一名60岁美国同性恋男子的细胞中发现的，这名感染者虽携带艾滋病病毒，但无病变症状，20多年来像正常人一样生活。科研人员意识到，“他体内一定有某种东西在保护他”。
周同庆是其中一篇论文的第一作者。此前，他还曾于2007年在英国《自然》杂志上发表封面文章，报道他们找到艾滋病病毒本身隐藏的致命弱点。周同庆在接受媒体采访时说，这一发现对正在研制的艾滋病疫苗是一个重大突破。这两种抗体的发现，让科学家重新燃起了希望。而科学家接下来要面对的问题是，如何找到一种方法，让所有普通人的免疫系统都可以产生这种抗体。而根据这种抗体开发出疫苗用于人体试验，还需要3到5年的时间。

周同庆这位宜昌人如何从一个农村孩子一步步攀上学术的高峰，成为世界顶尖科学家？昨日，由于采访时间正逢美国凌晨，记者未能直接联系上周同庆本人，便辗转采访了周同庆的家人、老师和同学。
糖钱换来识字书
“犟”娃3岁识字数百个
周同庆1966年出生于夷陵区太平溪镇一个叫黄家冲的贫穷的小山区，父亲是当地一所小学的民办教师，母亲是一名朴实的农村妇女。在父母的教育下，兄弟先后考上大学成为当地有名的“大学之家”。
周同庆自幼机灵好动，勤奋好学。2岁时，母亲带他到外公外婆家玩，村头一位老奶奶送给他两分钱让他买糖吃，他舍不得花，“自作主张”买了本图画书，让母亲教他认字。“他的记忆力特别好，一教就会。”提起儿子，周母兴奋不已，她说，2岁时，因为家里穷，没钱给他买书，村头围墙上有很多标语，他便拉着母亲教他认标语上的字，只要有字的地方，他总会央求父母教他认，3岁时，他已经认识数百个汉字了。他还常常抱着父亲教学用过的旧教材，闲暇之余在家自学，不懂的地方便逮住父母问个究竟。
“他求知欲望特别强，非要打破沙锅问到底，兄弟几个数他最‘犟’。”凭着一股“犟”劲，周同庆一口气读完了大学、研究生、博士生。
半天干活，半天上课
理想是“当个科学家”
穷人的孩子早当家，为了减轻父母的重担，周同庆5岁就学会了做饭，每天在家将弟弟们照顾好，父母一回家，就可以吃上热乎乎的饭菜。读小学后，他更是承担了家里所有的家务，打猪草、喂猪、做饭、洗衣……他无所不会。
5岁时，周同庆就上了小学一年级，父亲是他的启蒙老师，为了照顾弟弟们，让母亲安心在外干农活，卖点农产品养家糊口，他每天只能上半天课，下午在家看弟弟，干家务。“家里实在太穷了，只有牺牲孩子的读书时间。”父亲周良贵说，每当弟弟们睡着了的时候，他便找来书本好好学习落下的课程，每天晚上，当我们都睡着了的时候，他还在灯下刻苦读书。
周同庆从小就爱钻研，凡事都要研究个透。母亲说，儿子小时候的梦想是“长大了当科学家”。初中毕业时，为了缓解家里困难，家里希望周同庆读中专，但为了梦想，他说服父母走进了高中校园。
讨米也要让孩子读书
父母教育成就顶尖人才
家穷志不短，有了“当科学家的梦想”，周同庆不挑吃不挑穿，不怕苦不怕累，一门心思要读好书。父母也常常教育儿子们，考不上重点就回家务农，兄弟三个在父母的“重点”教育下，小学、初中、高中个个都是重点。
“只要孩子能上重点，讨米也要让孩子读。”提起曾经的艰苦岁月，周母感慨万分。有一次，周母看到儿子总是抱着书在读，劳累过度的她忍不住抱怨了几句，“看书能看出粮食来啊！”周同庆听了，一边安慰母亲，一边发誓要刻苦学习，早点学有所成干出一番事业来。
小学时，为了能上重点初中继续自己的学业，周同庆总是利用业余时间“加班加点”，白天要忙家务，复习的任务只能留给晚上了。
越战越勇，后来居上
以地区第一名考入大学
“前两天，同庆刚通过互联网给我传来了美国媒体方面关于他们团队研究成果的报道。”现在北京市第八十中学任教的喻祖权老师，是周同庆高中时代的班主任，接受记者采访时，他早已了解了喜讯。
喻祖权回忆说，周同庆属于越战越勇，后来居上型。那是自己大学毕业工作后带的第一届学生，当时的宜昌县高中（现三峡高中）高一年级共有四个班，自己所教的一班是整体成绩最差的班。1983年，周同庆从太平溪中学（现太平溪九四中学）考进高中的分数并不高 ，全年级200多名学生，高一、高二时，周同庆时常都在年级100多名徘徊。但是周同庆挺爱钻研，要搞清楚的题目一定会想尽办法弄个清楚。到了高三年级的最后一次调研考试，周同庆拿到了年级第25名，最后，他以当时宜昌地区第一名，590多分的成绩考入了武汉大学生物系。
性格开朗，喜欢运动
高中时代最爱打篮球
“他很聪明，也挺爱玩，篮球是他最喜欢的项目。”喻祖权说，周同庆虽然来自农村，但是性格开朗，喜欢运动，篮球场上经常能看到他的身影。
周同庆的同班同学，现在夷陵医院任职的医生罗波涛回忆，“他的桌子下面总是放着一个篮球，上课时还喜欢把篮球踩在脚底滚来滚去。”
他穿着普通，不摆架子
老师、同学眼中的普通人 喻祖权既是周同庆的老师也是老乡，对其非常了解，师生间有着深厚的感情。喻祖权说，多年来，两人一直保持着联系。在国内时，周同庆一有机会就会来看望，有时晚上干脆就住在他家中；到美国后，周同庆也经常通过互联网和越洋电话讲述自己的情况。喻祖权说：“他是我的骄傲。”
“他中等个，做事挺认真，是当时班上的学习委员。”罗波涛说，周同庆与大伙都很合得来。刚开学的时候，同学们有时捉弄他，周同庆也不生气。多年后，每次回宜昌，周同庆都会请同学们吃饭，他穿着普通，也不摆架子，没人看得出来他是博士、科学家。他甚至有过想法，请所有的同学都到北京去玩一趟。
虽然周同庆已在学术上取得卓越成就，但在老师和同学眼里，周同庆仍是一个亲切的普通人。
据了解，周同庆娶了位北京姑娘，已定居美国，两人有一个2岁的孩子，正在上幼儿园。
