世凯是既开朗又可爱的人，在湘雅二医院艾滋病研究室一间实验室里，世凯把门闩好后，采访才正式开始。
“我是从事煤矿技术工作的，1990年，作为技术人员，我去了坦桑尼亚，工作了大约两年，就回国了，在国际机场做入境例行检查时，被查出感染了艾滋病病毒。当时也没觉得怎么样。回来后，在省市疾控部门做了进一步检测，我成为了湖南首例艾滋病病毒感染者。”世凯说，此后，他的生活发生了很大的改变，单位不让他继续上班了，为他提前办理了内退，所在工作队的先进荣誉也被取消了，有段时间的生活，简直是与世隔绝……最怀念不离不弃的老婆
世凯正式退休后，每个月有1000多块钱的退休金，两个儿子都在外面找到了工作，唯一让他感到不舍的是他的老婆。“在我最困难的时候，老婆不离不弃，一直守候在我的身边，但3年前，她不幸去世了，如今我一个人生活，孩子也很少回来。我非常怀念我的老婆，她是世上最好的女人！”后来，随着国家对艾滋病防治工作的重视，越来越多的人对艾滋病有了进一步了解，加上世凯一直没有发病，亲戚邻居也逐渐地接纳了他。渴望像常人一样得到关爱
从确诊携带艾滋病毒到现在，世凯依然活得很好，他对生命的热爱也感染了他身边的健康人。“算来到今年有17年了，但是我从来没有吃过药，也没有什么不舒服，挺好的。平常感冒了，就自己买点感冒药吃。只是，我不理解，以前为什么会有那么多的人歧视我……”55岁的他渴望能和常人一样得到大家的关爱。专家称这真是个奇迹
为什么携带17年艾滋病毒而不发病呢？湘雅二医院艾滋病研究室主任、湖南省医学会艾滋病学学组组长郑煜煌教授说：“这真是个奇迹，像他这样的情况，确实很少见，我们也在作进一步的检测和研究，这可能与他的免疫系统有关，说明他的免疫系统非常棒，他老婆被他感染后就没能抵御住病魔的侵袭；要么是世凯身上携带的艾滋病毒有缺陷而没有发病。”
