Students and parents roamed the hallways of the new school. Cohen said the high school will bolster property values and Newton’s reputation for academic excellence. A panoramic view of the tennis courts. While the old Newton North was long derided for its lack of windows and 1970s decor, the new school has 850 windows and soaring ceilings. Amy Winston, head of the school’s science department, said that 'all the labs are so well outfitted, and we have wonderful new resources for our robotics and engineering programs. An image of the main Newton North gym. Gauri Sharma, a senior who manages the schools cross country team, said: 'I love how all the athletic facilities are so accessible and close together. We used to be spread all over town. I think having all the teams in one place will increase school spirit, because people will be able to see us and come to the games easily.' Cassidy Chan, a senior at the high school, stated his optimism for the new facility. ‘‘The building is so open and new, and it makes people want to come in and try new things.'
