As an incoming student in the division of Social Sciences at Bishop's, I wanted you to be aware of the fabulous opportunities available to you for pursuing research and service projects and gaining international experience…all supported by the University.

Through the generous support of a Bishop’s graduate, we established the B.E.S.T. (Bishop’s Experiential or Service Term) Projects Awards. Candidates may propose a broad range of projects, whether within academia or in the broader community. The main criteria are that projects should be linked to future plans and designed to provide experience that will position students to succeed.
由毕索大学毕业生大力支持，我们成立了BEST（Bishop’s Experiential or Service Term）项目奖。申请人申请项目非常广泛，可以是学术的也可以是社区生活的，只要项目和学生未来计划有联系，有助于学生成功即可。
This year's award winners from the division of Social Sciences will undertake the following projects:

1、研究魁北克不同地区钻探页岩气的危险
Gabrielle Massicotte is a third-year student from Trois-Rivières, Quebec, working on a double-major in Environmental Studies and Economics. Gabrielle’s B.E.S.T. project concerns the perception of risk in relation to drilling for shale gas among different populations in Quebec. Professor Tom Fletcher, an environmental justice expert, will act as Gabrielle’s mentor for this project, which is directly linked to both her majors, as well as the field in which she proposes to pursue graduate studies. Gabrielle plans to publish the results of her research in an academic journal and organize a talk on the subject at Bishop’s during the winter semester of 2011. In addition, she will to make a short video on shale gas drilling in Quebec for use by the Environmental Studies Department.

Maxime Pelletier grew up in Saint-Basile-le-Grand, on Montreal's south shore, and studied journalism at the Cégep de Jonquière. While pursuing an Honours programme in Political Studies and a Minor in Economics, he is working as a freelance journalist for La Tribune and Les Affaires, and contributing to the television show Cafe Internet on TV Cogeco. Maxime plans to undertake a Master’s in Public Administration, with a view to becoming a policy analyst for the government of Quebec. His B.E.S.T. project will take him on a three-week study tour of the European Union, with stops in Strasbourg, Frankfurt, Brussels and Luxemburg. Maxime plans to analyse more than 70 speeches by individuals working for the E.U. and report back during the fall of 2011 to a class given by his mentor, Dr Trygve Ugland.

3）雅思低于5.0，则需将语言成绩提高至雅思5.0或同等水平后才方可入读BEAP课程；
4）国内中加合办高中的学生直接入读专业课程，要求学生英语成绩均在70%以上。
