6日中午12点30分，已77岁高龄的高耀洁走向南京禄口国际机场出口处，将同行者远远地抛在了后面，虽然瘦小的身形在人群中稍显孤单，但她步步稳健，根本无意让人搀扶。
1996年偶然的一次机会，高耀洁接触到一例因输血而感染艾滋病的妇女，从那以后到现在的8年里，老人踏上了漫长而艰辛的民间“防艾”路，她以自己执着的行动赢得了广泛的尊重。
老人的此次南京之行是应南京工业大学团委和该校学生社团“爱心协会”之邀，在南京做为期四天的高校巡回演讲。休息间歇，因旅劳顿而疲惫不堪的她接受了快报记者的简短专访。
坐在模范马路一处宾馆的房间里，高耀洁看起来更像个仁慈的长者，而非一个声名显赫的社会活动家，难怪活动的组织者——工业大学的学生们都称呼她为“奶奶”，老人操着一口浓重的河南口音，因为年事已高，她会不时的提醒记者声音大一些。
“艾滋病是病，艾滋病人是人”
“我现在的活动很多，但只要是大学生邀请，我都会参加，”高耀洁有句名言:对防艾而言，知识是最好的疫苗，“大学生是知识的传播者，让他们消除艾滋病人的偏见、歧视，事半功倍。”
在8年的“防艾”经历，老人看过太多对针对艾滋病和艾滋病人的歧视，一次高耀洁在农村里见到一户人家窗上层层密封，便问户主为什么封得这么严实？对方回答让老人啼笑皆非:“他和我说东边一户人家有人得了艾滋病，所以他怕有‘艾滋风’刮到家里来。”

社会上的偏见是源自于对艾滋病传染途径的不了解，“现在很多人都觉得得了艾滋病无非是嫖娼、卖淫、吸毒，不值得同情。实际上我走过十几县，几百个村见过几千个艾滋病人，多数是因为血液传播的艾滋病，而他们得病的根本原因还是贫困。”
但纵使老人疾走呼告了8年，人们的偏见并没有改变，今年春节期间，老人作了一个一百多人的调查，“人们还是对艾滋病人抱以偏见。”
公众需善待艾滋病人
高耀洁有一张自制的名片，名片的背面印着几行字:“正视、善待、关心、同情艾滋病人。”
“说起来容易，做起来难，”老人长叹一口气，来南京前，老人将自己收到的来信作了个统计，现在已收到近万封来信，其中至少有812封是“骗子信”。

遇到这样的信，高耀洁的做法就是不予理睬，但这并不能阻止游医们前行的步伐，这样的信还是经常源源不断地涌向已具相当声望的高耀洁老人，老人对此已有了“抵抗力”，但艾滋病人病重乱投医，老人对此痛心疾首。
“这些人从本已贫困不堪的病人手中骗取大量的钱财，也加速了艾滋病人的死亡，我也一直想通过媒体呼吁，请善待艾滋病人，”说到这儿，激动的老人长咳不止。
防艾:一场没有硝烟的战争
相当长的一段时间里，高耀洁一直是用自己的积蓄和各种奖金给艾滋病人提供药物，为艾滋孤儿提供学费。但老人发现，自己做了很多无用功:“我捐出去的钱，竟被有的被捐助者被拿去赌博，给了孩子学费，亲属也不让他上学。”日益增多的艾滋孤儿已成了老人难解的心头隐痛。
