Big news in JPGland!
Short Version: Now you can post stories to JPG, just like photos.
http://jpgmag.com/stories
Long Version: When JPG started, it was a very different place.Though we've always been driven by your submissions, it used tobe a closed process: The editors picked the photos and that wasthat.
When we relaunched the magazine a few months ago, we opened upthe process. Now anyone can submit, and everyone can vote onwhich photos should be published. And it's been awesome - forissue 9 we registered 610,265 votes cast by 13,199 people. Thosevotes do a great job of sorting the great stuff up, and makes thesite a whole lot more fun for everyone.
But we still had a closed process for stories. You could writeone and send it to us, but no one else got to see it. Today thatchanged.
With our new Writing Tools, you can share your expertise with theJPG community. Know a great photo technique? Write a How To! Gota fun framing idea? Write a Post-Processing story! Want an excuseto contact a photographer you admire and ask them how they do it?Write an Interview!
We're especially excited ahout the Photo Essay tool. Use it togroup a series of photos together and talk about how you did itand what it means to you. There are already some excellent photoessays online.
This is how the stories in the magazine get there. Just click the"Submit!" box on your story and it will get the same votingfunctionality photos get. So if you read a story and you like it,vote it up! Published writers will get the same $100 and freesubscription reward that published photographers get.
Of course, you may just want to post a little hello to the peoplelooking at your photos. No problem! Just make a Personal Post andit will only appear on your profile page. Personal posts are notsubmissions - they're simply posts on your profile.
Why are we doing this? Because we know that regular folks like usoften have more expertise than the experts. Photography issomething you get better at the more you do it, so we want toenable you to share what you've learned with the community.Hopefully we can all learn from each other and get inspired totry new things.
